Water shutoffs have spread beyond Detroit into Baltimore & others as water privatization is growing. The transnationals doing this are strong proponents of TPP, TTIP, etc.
Labor is now being referred to as "Labor Stock" as if workers are just stock to be objectified and moved about the world like beef, hogs, poultry are traded, moved and exploited. This is just herding people! This is a world-wide and growing international "trade sector". The world is being carved into "Origin Economies" and "Destination Economies".
Labor trafficking in U.S. is huge in hotel/motel, residential domestic, agriculture and other common industries. Labor exploitation includes extortion, fraud, rape, enforced labor (a.k.a. slavery and debt obligation labor) in the U.S. is real and large.

As international human rights groups recoil over revelations that the state department, without merit, upgraded Malaysia's score in the Trafficking in Persons (TIP) report solely to facilitate passage of the TPP, we must not forget that current free trade regimes have become fertile grounds for human trafficking within our very own borders as well as abroad.
According to the International Labour Organization, there are, globally, at any given time, at least 2.45 million victims of slavery and forced labor, with 18,000-20,000 victims smuggled into the United States (2010 study).

There is something for everyone to do from being part of the media mobilizing team to increasing visibility in your community to passing local resolution or developing a rapid response team to take action.
